6 Ways to Stay Active While at Home

1. Go for a Walk or Run

Allot a few minutes each day for an outdoor jog or walk. This will not only give you some well-needed movement, but it will give you an opportunity to breathe in fresh air and recharge your mind away from your home.

2. Skip

Dig out your old skipping rope! This is a great way to fit some cardio into your day and challenge your coordination. As long as you have a ceiling high enough and a couple feet of space around you, you’re good to go!

3. Climb Stairs

To get your heart pumping and leg muscles burning, get on the staircase! Switch up the pace by going fast or slow, and change the intensity by climbing 1 or 2 steps at a time.

4. Use Furniture as Exercise Equipment

You can still get in a full body workout if you get a little creative with your house. Try doing tricep dips on the edge of a chair, Bulgarian split squats using the couch, calf raises off the edge of a step or planks with feet elevated on a small stool.

5. Get Creative with Weights

Just because you don’t own dumbbells doesn’t mean you can’t lift weights still! Search through your cupboards and closets to find items with a decent weight. You can add the items to a bag and perform bicep curls, or put them in a basket and do some overhead presses. If all you need are small handheld weights, soup cans, jars or full water bottles are great options.

6. Participate in Live Instagram Workouts

Tons of fitness influencers are doing daily live workouts for their followers to watch and participate in. These workouts often require no equipment and very little space. Since the videos are live, it makes you feel a little more motivated to exercise. The workouts are also scheduled at specific times each day, which gives the feel of “attending” a real life class.
